What is the purpose of the vapor barrier foil PAROBARRIER R110?
PAROBARRIER R110 forms a vapor-tight layer on the inside of the thermal insulation in pitched and flat roofs and in internally insulated walls. Its aluminum layer reflects thermal radiation back into the room when installed according to the specified detail. This is an internal vapor barrier, not an external under-roof membrane, and it is not laid over the insulation as rain protection.
What is the construction of PAROBARRIER R110?
R110 is a four-layer material: a reinforcing polypropylene mesh laminated on both sides with polyethylene foil, plus an aluminum reflective layer. The reinforcement absorbs installation stresses, the polyethylene performs the vapor barrier function, and the metallized layer is designed to reflect thermal rays. This explains why the orientation of R110 differs from that of the standard PAROBARRIER N90.
What is the size of the PAROBARRIER R110 roll?
The official size of R110 is 1.5 x 50 m, providing a nominal area of 75 m² per roll. The manufacturer states a strength of 230/230 N per 50 mm in both directions. Do not use 75 m² as pure coverage when ordering: joints, overlaps, openings, and cutting reduce the usable area and must be accounted for in the project.
Which side should the aluminum layer of PAROBARRIER R110 face?
In pitched roofs and internally insulated walls, the aluminum layer of R110 should face the room. For the reflective function to work, JUTA requires a 4 cm air gap between the foil and the interior cladding. If the metallized layer is pressed directly against the cladding, the same reflective effect should not be promised, although the vapor barrier layer remains part of the construction.
What are the joints of PAROBARRIER R110 glued with?
All horizontal and vertical overlaps of R110 must be glued with the specified AL-1 and K-2 tapes to prevent water vapor from entering the thermal insulation. The foil can be fastened to wooden elements with staples or galvanized flat-head nails. Mechanical fastening alone does not replace continuous sealing of joints, edges, and penetrations.
Is PAROBARRIER R110 suitable for rooms with high humidity?
JUTA recommends R110 for rooms with high humidity as well, but correct application depends on the entire moisture control detail. Continuous vapor barrier, sealed joints and penetrations, correct orientation of the aluminum layer, and a 4 cm gap to the cladding must be ensured. The foil does not replace room ventilation and does not compensate for leaks or improperly arranged roofing layers.
